THE Bulawayo High Court has dismissed the latest bail application by Marondera-based businessman Francesco Marconati, who is facing charges of illegal possession of a firearm.
Marconati had approached the High Court seeking to overturn a ruling by the Inyathi Magistrates’ Court, which had earlier denied him bail following his arrest in Bubi District nearly two weeks ago. He is accused of contravening Section 28 of the Firearms Act, which governs the unlawful possession of firearms.
In upholding the lower court’s decision, the magistrate cited concerns over the accused’s alleged propensity to commit similar offences.
The court further noted that granting bail could undermine public confidence in the justice system and potentially provoke outrage within the community.
