HWANGE Football Club legends have voiced concern over the club’s continued absence from Zimbabwe’s top-flight football, expressing a desire to see the team return to its former glory.
Taboniswa Ncube, a former Hwange star whose career was cut short by a severe injury in 1997, recalled the achievements of his generation, which finished fifth in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and featured notable players such as Nation Dube, and goalkeepers Chenjerai Dube and Witness Mukuli.
Reflecting on the club’s current struggles, Ncube said the legendary players remain committed to supporting Hwange’s revival.
“I do not have any issues with Gift Lunga. He would visit me at Mpilo, and I am not the first person to suffer a career-threatening injury. Of course, the injury was a setback in my career. I was at my peak and hoping to don the national team jersey. It pains me to see that the class of Hwange was up there. As legends, we are worried about what has happened to Mighty Hwange. We are concerned, but we will assist the club to bounce back and represent the Hwange pride,” he said.
The concerns raised by former players underscore a broader anxiety among supporters and the football community about the club’s inability to replicate the success of past generations.
