THE Geo Pomona Waste-to-Energy project has proved to be a game changer in transforming the face of Harare, with the latest acquisition of equipment set to harness waste management capacity.
The second batch of refuse collection equipment, comprising sweepers, compactors, skip and tipper trucks will boost Geo Pomona Waste Management Company’s waste management capacity, with the company having employed street sweepers to conduct roadside cleaning, which so far has transformed the face of Harare.
“The company has made significant strides to transform the City of Harare. Last month, we employed street sweepers who have made Harare much cleaner and this development will enhance its capacity to boost waste management in the city,” Executive Chairperson and CEO of Geo Pomona Waste Management Company, Dr Dilesh Nguwaya said.
Harare Mayor, Councillor Jacob Mafume praised Geo Pomona Waste Management Company as a willing partner to solve Harare’s long-standing waste management challenges.
“The project is a private-public partnership and we need to thank the Government for coming up with this idea, which is transforming Harare into a better place to stay.”
The implementation of the waste-to-energy project epitomises government’s determination to scale up service delivery.
“President Emmerson Mnangagwa has declared that service delivery is the epitome of the Second Republic. Hence, this project is set to transform the City of Harare,” Acting Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Honourable Zhemu Soda noted.
The acquisition of the new equipment demonstrates yet another flagship project conceived under the Second Republic, which continues to make a significant impact in not only creating employment and creating cleaner cities, but also contributing to national power generation.
