ZIMBABWE has expressed gratitude to Russia for its continued support in the country’s efforts toward political and economic emancipation.
This was said by African Youth Congress Chairperson and Zimbabwean youth empowerment advocate, Mr Taurai Kandishaya, during the BRICS International Municipal Forum held in Russia, which concluded on Friday.
Mr Kandishaya said Zimbabwe’s journey in fighting modern imperialism reflects a shared Global South experience, particularly in the wake of Western tendencies to weaponise finance and law to punish sovereign choices challenging a unipolar world order.
He said the illegal sanctions imposed on the country for embarking on a land reform programme saw the country partnering with progressive countries like Russia to ensure development.
The Zimbabwe Russia partnership has yielded investments in mining, energy, health and agriculture sectors, as well as ushering in defence and security cooperation.
Mr Kandishaya noted that countries like Russia offer tangible partnerships that come without political conditions.
