ZRP Golf Tournament boosts sports tourism in Vic Falls

THE 2025 Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner General Welfare Fund Matabeleland North Golf Tournament has been hailed as a key driver for sports tourism in Victoria Falls.

The Tournament teed off this Saturday at the Elephant Hills Golf Course.

The inaugural event drew over 140 amateur golfers from across Zimbabwe and neighbouring Zambia, bringing a strong regional presence to the tournament.

“As amateur golfers, we really enjoyed participating. It is a great initiative that will go a long way in supporting charitable causes in our province. This was the perfect opportunity to socialise, compete, and most importantly, raise funds for underprivileged children, especially in Binga. We travelled all the way from Mashonaland Central to support this noble cause and to stand in solidarity with our colleagues in Matabeleland North.”

Organisers say such local and international collaboration is critical not only for effective policing but also for extending support to vulnerable communities.

“I was truly impressed by the turnout. It is encouraging to see that the communities we serve and our stakeholders support us, not only in policing but in broader initiatives like this. The tournament is for a charitable cause and will help vulnerable groups, including orphans, widows, and disadvantaged schoolchildren,” Police General Headquarters, Harare Commissioner Chief Staff Officer Administration, Gift Hlabiso said.

“The main objective of this tournament is to assist underprivileged children, especially in areas like Binga. During a patrol, we met a child who walks 22 kilometres to school daily, something unimaginable. Our goal is to establish long-term projects like building a school and a clinic in Siabuwa,” Matabeleland North Province Officer Commanding Police, Commissioner Jealous Nyabasa noted.

“The relationship between Zimbabwe and Zambia remains strong, and we continue to encourage inter-agency cooperation through sport. Crime knows no borders, so these interactions, even on the golf course, help us know each other better and collaborate more effectively across our borders,” Zambia Commissioner of Police Southern Division Commissioner Auxensio Kwenzekani Daka added.

Proceeds from the tournament will go towards helping vulnerable children access basic education, further cementing the ZRP’s commitment to giving back to the communities it serves.
