THE 2025 edition of Africa Energy Week is currently underway in Cape Town, South Africa, bringing together energy sector leaders, policymakers, and experts to shape the continent’s energy future.
Zimbabwe’s Minister of Energy and Power Development, Honourable July Moyo, attended the event this Wednesday and delivered opening remarks during the Powering Africa’s Industrial Revolution roundtable discussions.
Minister Moyo highlighted Africa’s push for industrial growth, noting it requires a balanced energy mix, also stressing that renewable sources alone cannot sustain the continent’s heavy industries.
He also outlined Zimbabwe’s policies in attracting investments in renewable energy that include Investment in Transmission and Grid Infrastructure, Climate Financing and Green Investment Policies, Incentives for Renewable Energy Development, Supportive Local Content and Skills Development Frameworks, among others.
Minister Moyo pointed out how the Zimbabwean government has made significant strides with private participation being incentivised through public-private partnerships, independent power production, net metering, tax holidays and guarantees against expropriation.
The conference, which began on September 30, ends on October 3, with sessions expected to explore ways to raise capital, expand processing capacities, and integrate natural gas into regional energy strategies.
