PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has praised the Kingdom of Eswatini for its steadfast support during Zimbabwe’s most difficult moments on the international stage, particularly following the imposition of sanctions in the aftermath of the land reform programme.

Speaking at the 57th Eswatini International Trade Fair, which he officially opened on Saturday, President Mnangagwa commended Eswatini for its solidarity during Zimbabwe’s period of isolation and economic challenges. The event, which concludes this Monday, provided a platform for local, regional, and international companies to explore trade and investment partnerships.

“We vividly recall Eswatini’s unwavering support during seasons when we faced political and economic backlash, isolation, and the imposition of illegal economic sanctions, after we took back our land from those who had stolen it from us. Your consistent solidarity will forever remain etched in the history of our country. The collaboration between our two countries is a testament to our mutual determination to expand trade, investment, and linkages that cut across all sectors,” he said.

The Head of State also called on African nations to harness their natural resources and cultural heritage to improve livelihoods and drive sustainable development.

“Our two countries have deep-rooted social and cultural ties and an intertwined history, which predates our struggles for freedom. Now we are forging stronger bonds as we march forward hand-in-hand towards modernised and industrialised economies, as well as the realisation of shared aspirations for a united and prosperous future for future generations,” he noted

The trade fair is running under the theme: ‘Digital Transformation 2.0: Creating Business Networks,’ a theme that aligns closely with Zimbabwe’s Heritage-Based Education 5.0 model.

“On its part, Zimbabwe adopted the Heritage-Based Education 5.0 Model, which set up an enabling ecosystem that promotes innovation, science- and technology-driven development. We established Innovation Hubs and Industrial Parks, which are creating a new breed of entrepreneurs and seeing the establishment of new industries,” President Mnangagwa added.

Zimbabwean companies, represented under the ZimTrade banner, participated in the fair to explore strategic partnerships and broaden their regional market footprint.
