HARARE – THE Zimbabwe national rugby team, the Sables, are intensifying preparations ahead of the 2025 Rugby Africa Cup, scheduled to run from July 8 to July 19 in Kampala, Uganda.
The prestigious tournament, which brings together eight of the continent’s top sides, will not only determine the continental champions but also serve as a qualifier for the 2027 Men’s Rugby World Cup to be hosted in Australia.
As defending champions, the Sables enter the competition with high expectations and renewed determination.
Their campaign will begin with a fixture against Morocco, as they aim to replicate last year’s triumphant performance.
With the tournament’s stakes elevated, the team that emerges victorious will secure an automatic berth at the 2027 World Cup. The runners-up will proceed to a global repechage tournament, keeping their qualification hopes alive.
The participating teams include Zimbabwe, hosts Uganda, Namibia, Kenya, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Algeria, and Morocco.
The Sables, who ended their 2024 season on a high note with a successful tour of the Middle East and Asia, are hoping to carry their momentum into this critical continental showdown.
