HARARE – NATIONAL Hero Cde Luke Mushore, affectionately known by his Chimurenga name, Cde Joboringo, will be laid to rest at the National Heroes Acre on Monday, with President Emmerson Mnangagwa expected to preside over the proceedings.
The announcement follows the conferment of National Hero Status on Cde Mushore on Friday, in recognition of his unwavering commitment and distinguished service to Zimbabwe, both during and after the liberation struggle.
In a statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage confirmed the burial arrangements. The late national hero’s body will be airlifted to Centenary this Saturday, where friends, family, and Mashonaland Central’s leadership will have an opportunity to pay their final respects.
His remains will lie in state at his rural homestead on Braeburn Farm, before being transported back to Charles Gumbo Barracks in Harare on Sunday, ahead of the burial.
The nation has been called upon to unite in reverence as Zimbabwe prepares to honour one of its sons, whose dedication to the country’s liberation and post-independence development leaves a lasting legacy.
Cde Mushore joined the liberation struggle in 1972 and was among the early cadres who made significant contributions to Zimbabwe’s independence.
