PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has left Harare for Moscow where he will attend the 80th anniversary of Russia’s Victory Day celebrations.

Speaking before departure, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira said the attendance to Russia’s Victory Day celebrations is testament to the deep ties between the two countries.

“Zimbabwe and the Russian Federation have excellent relations, and His Excellency, President Mnangagwa was one of the Presidents who was invited by President Vladimir Putin to observe the parade. So this, on its own, is very significant in terms of, one, I said, the observance of world peace and security. Number two, in terms of enhancing Zimbabwe’s international relations, being a friend to all and an enemy to none, and looking at the globe in the eyes of Zimbabwe, not in borrowed eyes,” he said.

From Moscow, President Mnangagwa will undertake a state visit to Belarus.

The visit follows the visit to Zimbabwe by President Alexander Lukashenko in 2023.

The Head of State visit aims to solidify the already established bilateral ties between Harare and Minsk.

“Harare-Minsk relations are already strong, with over 50 memoranda of understanding signed in areas such as agricultural machinery, engineering and science. This return visit provides an opportunity to explore further cooperation in tourism, technology, and other productive sectors,” Professor Murwira stated.

President Emerson Mnangagwa was seen off at the Robert Gabriel International Airport by the two Vice Presidents General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga and Colonel (Retired) Kembo Mohadi, service chiefs and senior government officials and is accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Professor Amon Murwira.
