SUNGURA star, Tatenda Pinjisi has been described as a kind, young talented artist who left a mark in the country’s music industry.
Family, friends and musicians thronged the late Tatenda Pinjisi’s home in Ruwa to bid farewell to the talented Sungura musician who died on Sunday night from injuries sustained during a road traffic accident on Friday.
“Tatenda was one kind man. He united the family and was kind to everyone,” his aunt, Christine Gurure said.
Band member and dancer, Anderson Clayton known as Blah Giant, who survived the accident, relived the horrific crash that also claimed the lives of two band members and a passenger who was in their car.
“We were on our way to Kadoma. So just along the road, five cars were coming from the opposite direction. All of a sudden, one of the cars which was at the back tried to overtake and we had a head-on. I survived, but I am in shock. I do not think it will be possible to bring back the band.”
Artists mourned the ‘Saina’ hit-maker, adding he left an indelible mark in the arts sector.
“Tatenda was a talented artist and we are saddened by his death. He would call me to listen to his works,” Madzibaba Nicholas Zachariah said.
Government hailed Pinjisi for his contribution in the arts sector and commitment to fighting drug and substance abuse through his music.
“As government, we are saddened by the death of Tatenda Pinjisi. He did anti-drug abuse campaigns through his music. We have been working together even in my constituency in Gokwe where he encouraged youths to stop drugs. We have lost a gem,” Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Honourable Torerayi Moyo said.
He is survived by his wife Melissa Chikuti and five children.
He will be buried in Mutoko this Wednesday.
