THE Southern African Development Community (SADC) Ministers responsible for Transport, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Information, and Meteorology are convening in Harare, from February 24 to February 28, to review progress on regional integration and economic growth.
Monday’s session has drawn permanent secretaries from various SADC member states, representing the key ministries.
In her opening address, Zimbabwe’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Engineer Joy Makumbe, emphasised the importance of infrastructure development, digital transformation, and climate resilience in driving socio-economic growth in Southern Africa.
SADC Deputy Executive Secretary of Regional Integration, Ms. Angele Makombo N’tumba also addressed the meeting, emphasising the need for stronger collaboration among member states, prioritisation of sustainable funding mechanisms, and leveraging emerging technologies to enhance efficiency in transport, ICT, and meteorology.
Key areas of discussion will include infrastructure development, digital transformation, climate resilience, and transport sector development.
The meeting is expected to culminate in a communiqué outlining the ministers’ commitments to accelerating regional integration, promoting economic growth, and enhancing the quality of life for SADC citizens.
