The late national hero Cde Chenhamo Chimutengwende who died this Thursday has been described as a fatherly figure, and a pan Africanist who was development oriented.

His sister, Ms Florence Nyangoni Sambana said, “He started politics at around 13 or 14 years in Highfield. He was sought after because he was involved in politics. His real name was Hasan Nyangoni. He later went to UK but he was still involved in politics. He liked people. Helped people through philanthropy. He worked in Mazoe constituency for a long time. He developed roads to Chiweshe. He worked with the youths.”
Cde Chimutengwende dedicated his life to the betterment of society, advocating for policies that promoted economic growth, education, and social justice.
“He was a unifier. He would teach people about the revolution. He would bring that in the family. He influenced a lot as a politician. He was a journalist and a writer. We would exchange information. He was a pan Africanist and would accommodate everyone,” stated family spokesperson, Mr Cleopas Nyangoni.
Meanwhile, the late national heroes’ family says it remains grateful for the national hero status bestowed upon their father.
His nephew, Munyaradzi Nyangoni said, “We thank the government for the recognition dad worked for the country. We saw his commitment. He had principles of the country and the revolution. He taught us to love our country. For almost 17 years he was provincial chairman for Mashonaland Ccentral.”
