ZANU PF councillors in Hwange have managed to see a resolution passed in the opposition dominated local authority which will result in a US$150 000 fisheries programme being implemented for the benefit of the local community.
The people of Hwange say this will have a positive impact on their livelihoods.
A beneficiary told the ZBC News, “We want to see programmes that impact on our lives. We are grateful to the Vision of our President who has planted such ideas around the country.”
Another stated, “This will not only give council revenues, it creates employment locally and the community benefits.”
“We are happy whenever programmes that are of benefit are adopted in our area. This means more empowerment for local people,” added another beneficiary.
The councillors say the fisheries programme will serve as an important revenue generation stream.
Cde Peterson Ncube noted, “We support this resolution to ensure council creates many revenue streams. This is an important project which will bring in funds and we will not rest till it is realised.”
“There is an area that we will use where councillors actually lost several low density stands. It will be converted into a huge 2 000 square metre fish pond area,” said Cde Sam Tshuma.
Fisheries under the Presidential programme have uplifted many communities in Zimbabwe especially in rural areas. As local authorities search for more revenue generation streams, they have been encouraged by the Second Republic to embrace programmes that enable not only collection of funds, but also ensure they plough back into capital development projects.
