Dairy project success story in Wedza

Story by ZBC Reporter

A dairy farmer based in Wedza has become a shining example of women empowerment in agriculture with a thriving dairy project.

The project, which is one of the biggest in Wedza run by a woman, Mrs Sheila Mugabe, is a testimony of the Second Republic’s commitment to empowering women through sustainable agricultural production.

“I would like to thank the government for its empowerment policies which have seen us as women being economically empowered and contributing to the country’s agricultural production,” she said.

Zimbabwe Women in Agribusiness director, Ms Philipa Jaya said, “This project shows that if given the opportunity, women can do it and we are proud of our farmer for having done this.”

Nicaragua Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Her Excellency Nadeska Cuthbert was charmed with the project.

“I am very excited with this project and the production here is first class and would like to replicate this in our country,” she noted.

The farmer is currently milking 14 cattle from a herd of 47.
