MEMBERS of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) have convened in Midrand, South Africa for the 4th session of the 6th Parliament, which will be officially opened this Monday.
The stage is set for what is expected to be a captivating session of PAP as members of Parliament from across Africa are convening in Midrand for the official opening.
“The Pan-African Parliament will be hosting two weeks of an ordinary session of its 6th Parliament headed by Chief Fortune Charumbira. We are here in Midrand South Africa already beginning to receive members of Parliament from across Africa to come and deliberate on important continental issues that are of concern to the African Union,” the Clerk of Pan-African Parliament, Lindiwe Khumalo said.
With everything now in place for the official opening what is now left is for the representatives from African parliaments to engage in robust debate according to the expectations of the people of Africa.
“One of the biggest issues on the agenda of this session is the strategic plan of the Pan-African Parliament. The PAP, as an organ of the African Union, is required to develop a set of priorities that will guide the work of the PAP for the next four years.
“We have already started discussing those priorities in a workshop of members of Parliament where high-level priorities for each Parliamentary committee have been discussed within the context of the session and the Parliament will deliberate and adopt the strategic plan.” the Clerk of Pan-African Parliament said.
For the next two weeks, there will be debate in the Chambers of the Pan-African Parliament.
Zimbabwe is represented by five legislators, including PAP President Chief Fortune Charumbira.
