President Emmerson Mnangagwa says Africa must not wait for others to act on its behalf in issues to do with climate change and health but must share ideas and make bold decisions that protect its citizenry against the negative impacts of climate change .
The Head of State who officially opened the inaugural Climate and Health Africa Conference in Harare this Wednesday said the meeting is no ordinary one as it provided a platform for the participants from various African countries to better understand the emerging evidence on the impacts of climate change on health .
He said the right to protect Africa’s citizenry can never be delegated .
President Mnangagwa said there is need to scale up research and surveillance to understand just how climate change is impacting on human health .
The CHAC 2024 meeting comes at a critical time ahead of COP29 and President Mnangagwa said the continent must speak with one voice on climate change issues .
