ZIMBABWE is tapping into the Indian market as part of its strategy to revitalise the country’s tourism industry.
As a show of intent to lure the Indians into Zimbabwe, various efforts are underway, including the deployment of the first-ever tourism attaché in New Delhi and road shows.
In line with the vision to tap into the Indian source market, a roadshow was recently held in Mumbai where various tourism excursions were showcased to grow arrivals from the Asian market, up from just over 17 000 last year.
The Mumbai road show team, which was led by Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Honourable Tongai Mnangagwa, included tourism players and former Zimbabwe Cricket Team captain, Hamilton Masakadza.
“Zimbabwe is not only an add-on or will no longer be an add-on going forward. Zimbabwe has water experience, the safari experience, the adventure experience and all our monuments.
“The second thing is the access into Zimbabwe, we currently have Emirates which flies daily into Harare and has a codeshare with Fastjet which flies daily between Harare and Victoria Falls.
“We also have our national pride Air Zimbabwe which flies into Victoria Falls daily and other airlines,” said tour organizer, Blessing Munyenyiwa.
“I am just so happy that a whole delegation from Zimbabwe is hermit gives us a lot of confidence so sell the destination better,” the director for Amazing Vacations, Veneeta Rawat.
The government highlighted the significance of the Indian source market to the country’s tourism growth.
“As we strive to increase destination visibility and awareness in India, we recognize the immense potential of this market.
“We invite you to partner with us in showcasing Zimbabwe’s untapped beauty to the Indian traveler.
“Together, let us create exclusive packages that cater for the diverse interests of Indian tourists, from adventure and wildlife to culture and relaxation,” said Honourable Mnangagwa.
The majestic Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Matobo Hills, the pristine Hwange National Park and the Great Zimbabwe Monuments, among others, are some of the irresistible tourist attractions in the country.
