ZPCS and Rwanda Correctional Services vow to strengthen cooperation

Story by Peter Chivhima

ZIMBABWE Prisons and Correctional Services and Rwanda Correctional services have signed a Memorandum of Understanding which will see the two countries strengthening the already existing cooperation.

This Monday saw the two upgrading their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and committing towards sharing best practices and enhancing their cooperation at a colourful event held at Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS) headquarters in Kigali.

The Memorandum of Understanding signed will see the two countries exchanging notes and collaborating in areas including plea bargaining, renewable energy and new technologies like the Inmates Management System (IMS).

The Zimbabwean delegation, which is in Rwanda for a week-long benchmarking visit is being led by ZPCS Commissioner General, Moses Chihobvu, who is convinced the visit will benefit the two countries.

Commissioner Chihobvu said, ‘‘We have to remember that in running correction institutions you need to learn what others are doing for improvement.’’

The ZPCS launched the Peace Education Programme in 2021 to address the mental aspects of inmates, the development which attracted the attention of various countries from the region which includes Botswana, Mozambique and Namibia.
