ZNA pledges zero-tolerance on drug abuse at Four Infantry Brigade command handover

THE Zimbabwe National Army has pledged its commitment to maintain peace and security in the country through fighting drug and substance abuse, which has since been described as a national security threat.

Speaking at the handover, takeover parade for the outgoing and incoming commanders for Four Infantry Brigade in Masvingo, the Chief Witnessing Officer, who is Zimbabwe National Army Commander, Lieutenant-General Anselem Sanyatwe said drug and substance abuse has become a security threat, hence they are taking a strong stance against drug peddlers.

“Drug and substance abuse poses a significant threat to our national security as well as the operational readiness and well-being of our troops. Accordingly, as the Commander for this Brigade, you should take a zero-tolerance approach to send a very strong message. Follow the legal and administrative procedure to dismiss offenders, as there is no room for drug abusers in the Zimbabwe National Army,” he said.

Lieutenant-General Sanyatwe also spoke on their contribution in the fight against poaching, smuggling, and illegal mining.

“The formation has also managed to, among other achievements, maintain peace and stability within Masvingo province through border control operations. I am aware that the fight against smuggling of goods and other illegal activities along border lines has never been easy, however I must commend the outgoing Commander for, the manner in which he handled these issues,” he said

The outgoing Commander Four Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General Cephas Gurira paid tribute to the provincial leadership for the support during his tenure, while his incoming counterpart, Brigadier General Oscar Tshuma pledged commitment towards maintaining peace and development in the province.

“Let me take this opportunity to acknowledge the commitment, dedication, and support rendered to me during my tenure as the Commander of this formation by its members and the community leadership, including traditional leaders. We managed to complete many of our operations due to the support rendered to me.” Brigadier General Gurira said.

“As I assume the reigns, I pledge to continue upholding our constitution of Zimbabwe at the same time ensuring there is peace and unity among our people in the province,” Brigadier General Oscar Tshuma said.

Brigadier General Tshuma takes over command of the brigade following the re-assignment of Brigadier General Gurira to One Infantry Brigade in Bulawayo.
