Story by Jonathan Marerwa in Beijing, China
Two Zimbabweans based in China have been honoured by the Public Diplomacy Network for promoting Africa-China co-operation.
The two, Bridget Mutambirwa and Melody Zekey Pand, were presented with the Public Diplomacy Persons of the Year award during a ceremony held recently in Beijing, becoming the first Africans and women to get such recognition.
Mutambirwa and Pand are media personalities and have both been mouthpieces of the Africa-China co-operation initiative.
Speaking during the awards ceremony, Pand noted that the One Belt and Road Initiative has been at the forefront of bringing the two blocs together in unity and integration, adding that the initiative has seen great successes in business and education, while people to people interactions and friendships were created.
She said they will continue to strive for a better Africa-China co-operation where mutual respect and understanding are continuously cultivated.
Pand, however said her wish is to see more sports exchanges between China, Zimbabwe and China in such sporting codes as soccer, chess, table tennis, swimming, wushu among others.
