ZIMBABWE continues to prove to be the Tourism destination of choice after winning three prestigious awards at the ongoing International Tourism Bourse in Berlin, Germany.
The Awards were held on the sidelines of the ongoing International Tourism Bourse, which is one of the biggest Tourism Trade fairs in the world.
The recognition comes as the tourism sector is getting back on its feet after the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic that saw a halt in world travel for nearly two years.
Zimbabwe won the destination of the year, Natural Beauty in Africa, while the Minister of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Honourable Mangaliso Ndhlovu received the best African Minister of the Year, and Zimbabwe Tourism Authority CEO, Ms Winnie Muchanyuka scooped the Professional Destination Management Award.
Minister Ndlovu, who is leading the Zimbabwe delegation at the expo applauded the teamwork exhibited in ensuring Brand Zimbabwe continues to woo the international market.
Minister Ndlovu noted, ‘‘This is pleasing to be recognised for marketing destination Zimbabwe. The Fair also serves as a platform for business connections in the tourism and hospitality industry. We also get to measure ourselves as a country, the potential to see what others are doing and give room for improvement if not perfection in our tourism strategies.’’
Zimbabwe Tourism Authority CEO, Ms Winnie Muchanyuka highlighted the importance of the International Tourism Bourse in forging business synergies for Zimbabwe.
Ms Chakanyuka said, ‘‘The IBT Fair is a window for Zimbabwe to attract investment and partnership in the tourism industry. The award comes as a certification of hard work and team spirit in ensuring Zimbabwe’s tourist destinations are put on the global front in return the sector rakes in the envisaged boost.’’
The International Tourism Bourse is a prime travel and tourism expo that attracts the world’s leading investors, tour operators and other stakeholders.
