THE Zimbabwe national Under-21 women’s hockey team have qualified for the Junior World Cup in Chile, after a 7-nil victory over Kenya in their last group match at the Africa Junior Cup in Egypt this Wednesday.

The Zimbabwe junior ladies’ team are set to make their fifth appearance at the global showpiece after booking the second slot at the Junior Africa Cup underway in Egypt.

Zimbabwe had lost in their opening match to neighbours South Africa before keeping their hopes alive after grabbing their first win over hosts Egypt in their second match.

Their last group match against Kenya was a must-win to earn a qualification ticket while they hoped for South Africa to defeat Egypt.

Bradley Heuer’s girls went on to clinch a 7-nil victory over Kenya to finish second, while South Africa who won all their three group games, secured first place.

Kenya and Egypt will now clash in the third and fourth-place encounter, while Zimbabwe and South Africa will meet in the final to conclude the continental tournament this Thursday.

On the other hand, the Zimbabwe men’s side finished the group matches winless after a 3-1 defeat to Egypt.
