Zimbabwe is set to make its mark on the international handball scene as the country prepares to host the International Handball Federation (IHF) Trophy Zone VI women’s junior and youth tournament in April.
The country’s successful bid to host the event has been described as testament to its growing reputation as a hub for handball in Africa.
The tournament, scheduled to take place in Harare from the 28th of April to the 4th of May, will bring together top teams from the region, all vying for a spot in the continental phase.
Secretary of the Zimbabwe Handball Federation Edison Chirowodza said, “This tournament is set to be hosted in Harare and winners will take part in the continental championship which will be held later and ultimately the continental winners will proceed to the world youth and juniors qualifiers.”
Zimbabwe’s national teams will be looking to build on their past successes after hosting two editions of the IHF Trophy Zone VI men’s and junior teams tournaments in 2022 and 2024.
In addition to the IHF Zone VI tournament, the Zimbabwe Handball Federation is also looking forward to other exciting events in 2025.
The winners of the National Club Championship, Manyame Falcons and Manyame Sparrows are expected to compete in the regional club championships next month.
