Zimbabwe and Rwanda have reaffirmed their commitment to the Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation (JPCC) which is yielding positive results in the areas of education, communication technology and e-governance.
Two years since its establishment, the JPCC has culminated in high-level visits including the recently-held Transform Africa Summit.
There has also been skills transfer with 156 Zimbabwean teachers and lecturers being employed in Rwanda coupled with knowledge transfer on e-governance issues.
Officially opening the senior officials meeting of the second session of the JPCC in Harare this Monday, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador James Manzou applauded the success story of cooperation between Harare and Kigali.
Rwandese Ambassador and co-chair of the JPCC, His Excellency James Musoni concurred that the Commission is a key instrument in building a solid foundation between the two countries.
“The government of Rwanda strongly believes that the JPCC is an important instrument for laying a rock-solid foundation and building blocks for enhancing and deepening bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and Zimbabwe,” he noted.
“I am, therefore, pleased that we have made considerable progress towards meeting our goal. This is substantiated by the fact that among more than 20 instruments signed between our two countries, most of them are being implemented at a satisfactory level,” he said.
The Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation between Zimbabwe and Rwanda was established in 2021 with agreements in the areas of tourism, education, health as well as information communication technology.
