Defending champions, FS Raiders continue to dominate women’s rugby in the Paramount Garments Northern League after thumping Hatcliffe 103-nil at Harare Sports Club this Saturday.
FS Raiders have been the most dominant force in local rugby since turning professional in 2019.
They have swept past their opponents with relative ease and showed exactly what they are really made of to new kids on the block, Hatcliffe last Saturday.
Raiders scored more than 15 tries against a hapless Hatcliffe side that got a rude awakening of the competition in the senior challenge.
Eventually, Raiders, who have won every match they have played for the last four years, walked away 103- nil victors over Hatcliffe.
In other matches, a youthful Harare Sports Club women’s team beat OGs Pitbulls 53-41 in a high-scoring encounter.
As if that was not enough their men’s side also edged Old Georgians 33-31 in a close encounter as Harare Sports Club asserted their dominance over Old Georgians.
Old Hararians out-lasted Pitbulls 29-21 as the second round of the Northern Rugby League came to an end.
The Premier Netball League continued with matches being played at Welton Primary School in Beitbridge.
In the big match of the weekend, defending champions, Platinum Queens edged perennial contenders ZDF 31-28, while in another big match, youthful Green Fuel thumped log leaders, Ngezi Platinum 40- 22.
Hosts, Beitbridge did not have a good weekend as they lost 30-22 to Rhinos before falling again 42-13 to Ngezi in their second match of the weekend.
Moving to the capital, the Harare Volleyball Association league tipped off at the weekend with defending women’s champions; Support Unit losing at home to old foes; Harare City 3-1
The two teams have fought many battles and this time, it was the former champions getting the upper hand to kick off the season.
Harare City went on to beat AFC 3-1 in their second match before Support Unit returned to winning ways with a 3-nil over AFC.
With the defending men’s champions UZ Wolves not in action, Support Unit took the opportunity to stake their claim after a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Harare City.
NABA beat BVC 3-nil, while Black Rhinos matched the scoreline as they outclassed Old Hararians.
