Zimbabwe prepares for Miss World

Beauty Queen Courtney Jongwe is optimistic she will raise the country’s flag high at the Miss Worlds contest set for next year.

The stunning 23-year-old, who stole the limelight at the weekend and was crowned Miss World Zimbabwe, is excited at the opportunity to represent the country at the Miss World contest set for next year.

“In terms of preparation, the first thing that I have to do is continue with my advocacy. I’m currently advocating for mental health and a project that I’m calling Century Project. So that is the main thing that I need to focus on and continue so that we can bring it to Zimbabwe. Prior, I was working in Manikin, because I was currently representing Manikin. But I hope to take it to all the public services in Zimbabwe and bring that work to the surface. And then the second thing that I’m going to do is also work on my population as a person, understand my weaknesses and my strengths, and make sure that they are polished. Catwalk, wardrobe, and even speaking, all those things need to be very polished to ensure that we stand a very good chance of bringing our crown back,” Jongwe said.

Jongwe, who is not new in the pageantry world after placing in the Top 20 out of over 80 models at the Miss Earth in 2023, has already begun preparations for the world contest set for next year.

“I managed to place top 20 where there were 83 other countries and I learnt that preparation is the best way to go thus I’m so excited that I’ve got a team that is going to be happy to help me prepare and I’m going to put all the hard work that I can into preparing for this world competition. I am motivated by social responsibility. I’m a person who understands that I belong to the community. I understand the power of Ubuntu, and I have been raised by the community, and now I’ve got the strength and the capacity to give back. That’s why right now I identified a problem that is in the community, which is mental health. And now I’m giving back my time, energy, and effort to support people that are struggling with mental health and people who don’t know that they are struggling with mental health. So that is what I am for and what I stand for.”

Dates and venue for the annual Miss World contest are yet to be released.

Krystyna Pyszková of the Czech Republic is the reigning Miss World queen.
