THE Panel of Eminent Persons of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), led by Ambassador Aly El-Hefny, is meeting representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, accompanied by Zimbabwe’s National Secretariat to the APRM, at Munhumutapa Building in Harare.

The deliberations are centred on the visiting delegation’s expectations in assessing Zimbabwe’s progress in promoting good governance and sound economic management.

Head of the APRM Panel of Eminent Persons, Ambassador El-Hefny, said his delegation looks forward to holding frank discussions with various arms of government, civil society, and community leaders on the strides Zimbabwe has made towards fulfilling the commitments it undertook in 2020 regarding democracy and good governance.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador Albert Chimbindi, welcomed the delegation to Zimbabwe and commended the important work it is undertaking.

Zimbabwe voluntarily acceded to the African Peer Review Mechanism during the 33rd African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 2020.

The peer review process seeks to evaluate the progress of member states in upholding principles of democracy, transparency, and good governance.
