Zimbabwe Farmers Union president Major (Rtd) Abdul Nyathi dies

THE government has consoled the Nyathi family following the passing on of the Zimbabwe Farmers Union president Major (Rtd) Abdul Nyathi on Friday.

Major (RTD) Nyathi, who was also the vice president of the Land Commission, died after a short illness.

He was 71.

Family and friends who are gathered at Plot Number 1, Railway Block, West Nicholson in Gwanda, described the late farmer as a humble man.

“He was dedicated. He meant everything to the Land Commission, he wrote everything, the policy and literally everything,” said Commissioner Philip Chiwera.

The Minister of State for Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Evelyn Ndlovu paid tribute to the renowned farmer, saying the province has lost a dedicated and productive man.

“We have lost a humble man who dedicated his life to the betterment of this country. He did not do it for Matabeleland South only, but for the whole country. As a province, we are saddened.”

Major (Rtd) Nyathi is survived by two wives and 8 children.
