ZIMBABWE has joined the rest of the world in marking the International Nurses Day which is celebrated on May 12 every year.
This year’s commemorations are running under the theme: “Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for nurses strengthens economies”.
This theme highlights how crucial it is to promote nurses’ health and wellness, emphasising how important a healthy nursing workforce is for the provision of high-quality care.
The theme urges immediate funding and workable solutions to safeguard nurses from emotional, mental, and physical difficulties while making sure they are respected, valued and supported.
The Health Service Commission says it is committed to improving the welfare of its workforce through ongoing engagement with employees.
The Commission’s Secretary Dr Christopher Pasi said as part of efforts to improve the healthcare workers’ conditions of service, the Commission has embarked on a comprehensive job evaluation exercise to assess and realign job roles and compensation structures in the health sector.
This initiative is expected to enhance the overall health delivery system by ensuring fair compensation, clear career progression frameworks and improved job satisfaction for healthcare professionals.
