ZIMBABWE and Russia are set to further explore areas of putting into action agreements signed at the Russia-Africa Summit held in St Petersburg in July.

The 2023 edition of the Russia-Africa Summit saw Harare and Moscow signing memoranda of understanding in various sectors, including the information area.

It was with these agreements in mind that the Russian Ambassador to Zimbabwe His Excellency Nikolai Krasilnikov met Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere in Harare this Monday.

Dr Muswere revealed they discussed some of the key outcomes of the 2023 summit and how best the two countries can implement the signed MOUs.

“We had a discussion on the Russia Africa summit and signed agreements in the information, communication and media sector as it plays a key role in our National Development Strategy One and aspirations for development as a country,” he said.

Ambassador Krasilnikov weighed in saying the meeting was important in addressing key economic developmental aspirations of the two countries.

“Our two countries enjoy deep relations and the media sector is a key player in the dissemination of critical information. I also took time to congratulate the Honourable Minister on his appointment and the success of ZANU PF at the elections,” he said.

Under the National Development Strategy One, the government is looking at ways of enhancing political ties for growth under the engagement and re-engagement policy.

In the recent past, Zimbabwe and Russia have engaged in the mining, education and information technology sectors.
