She was speaking to ZBC News ahead of Vice President Cde Kembo Mohadi’s visit to Malawi for the Church of Central African Presbyterian Centenary Celebrations, where he will be representing President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“Zimbabwe and Malawi have thriving diplomatic and socio-economic relations evidenced by frequent high-level visits by the two countries’ leaders. Trade between Zimbabwe and Malawi has significantly improved over the years regardless of our homogenous economies. As a mission, to improve trade relations between the two countries we are facilitating frequent exchange of visits between our two countries under the banner of trade and investment activities,” she said.

Ambassador Saungweme also took the opportunity to congratulate Zimbabwe for successfully hosting the just-ended 44th SADC summit of Heads of State and Government which saw President Mnangagwa assume the SADC Chairmanship.

She added, “We are excited that as a country we successfully hosted the SADC summit which was well attended by the regional leaders. We are confident that our President will lead the regional block with excellence just like what he is doing in our country. There is a lot of progress in ensuring infrastructure development and improved livelihoods of our communities, hence, we say congratulations.”

Zimbabwe and Malawi share cordial relations which date back to the colonial era when they were under the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland along with Zambia, hence they share common values, history and culture.
