ZIMBABWE is taking part in the 2025 Group of Twenty (G20) Leaders’ Summit, which opened this Saturday in Johannesburg, South Africa.

This comes after His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa was invited to attend the high-level Summit by the G20 Chairperson and South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa.

Vice President General Rtd Dr Constantino Chiwenga, who is representing President Mnangagwa, is leading the Zimbabwean delegation at the Summit.

Zimbabwe is using its invitation to participate in global economic discussions, seek deeper regional integration and in bilateral meetings with other nations and the G20 host.

The G20 is the permanent forum for international economic cooperation, comprising 19 sovereign countries and two regional bodies, the European Union and the African Union.

It accounts for over 80 % of the world’s economic output, more than 70 % of global trade and two-thirds of the world’s population.

Key issues for this year’s G20 Leaders Summit include debt sustainability,  inclusive economic growth, climate finance, global inequality and harnessing natural resources.

While Zimbabwe is not a permanent member of the G20,  it is participating in the 2025 G20 Leaders Summit in South Africa as an invited guest.

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga Friday night, engaged South African President Cyril Ramaphosa during a G20 dinner held at the Convention Centre in Sandton, Johannesburg.
