ZIMBABWE is exploring strategic partnerships with Japanese research and academic institutions aimed at transforming its healthcare delivery systems, advancing technological capacity, and equipping local professionals with critical skills for national development.

Vice President Colonel Retired Kembo Mohadi, who is leading Zimbabwe’s delegation to Expo2025 Osaka, has been engaging key Japanese institutions with the potential to contribute significantly to the country’s development agenda under Vision 2030.

Among the notable stops on his tour was the Nakanoshima Cross Medical Research Institution, a world-class centre renowned for cutting-edge work in regenerative therapy and advanced surgical technologies.

“The high-quality equipment here and the success in medical research, including regenerative therapy, are systems we need back home,” said Vice President Mohadi.

“We are working on a partnership that will allow us to access these facilities and transfer the technology they have developed. This will help upgrade our health centres and expose our medical staff to high-tech environments, which will be of immense benefit to our nation.”

The Vice President also visited Osaka Metropolitan University, Japan’s largest tertiary institution, where discussions focused on enhancing academic cooperation, particularly in science, technology, and innovation.

“For Zimbabwe to develop, we need knowledge and skills. My government is keen to work with this university so that our students can study here and gain the much-needed expertise for industrial growth. As global technological standards evolve, Zimbabwe must keep pace to remain competitive,” he noted.

At Osaka Polytechnic University, the Vice President underscored the role of universities in driving industrialisation through innovation, research, and the production of market-ready goods and services.

Expo2025 Osaka, which began in April and runs until October 13, has provided Zimbabwe with a vital platform to court investors, diversify export markets, and foster strategic international partnerships across key sectors.

As the expo nears its conclusion, Zimbabwe’s engagements, particularly in health, education, and industrial innovation, are expected to yield long-term benefits aligned with its development trajectory.
