ZIMBABWE and Iran are set to deepen their bilateral relations, with a focus on enhancing economic and health cooperation

A courtesy call on the Vice President General Retired Constantino Chiwenga by the Charge d’ Affairs of the Iranian Embassy, Mr Hadi Taheri and the Deputy Ambassador of Iran, Mr Naser Asiabi, this Tuesday afternoon opened doors for the deepening of relations between Harare and Tehran.

Emerging from a closed-door meeting, Mr Taheri revealed that discussions ranged from economic cooperation to health sector collaborations.

“We discussed a variety of bilateral issues and topics and also the manufacturing of tractors where an Iranian company will come and set up shop in Zimbabwe and also extend relations in the field of medicine and the field of medical equipment such as cancer and dialysis machines,” he said.

“Perhaps you are very aware, we already have two memorandums of understanding in the field of medicines and pharmaceutical cooperation between two countries.

“Two pharmaceutical consignments already came into Zimbabwe, and fortunately, it had very good feedback. And we are now working on the third consignment to come to Zimbabwe. Also, we are working in other fields such as the distribution and manufacturing of medicines here in Zimbabwe. And also in the field of equipment for cancer and dialysis.”

The Iranian delegation extended an invitation to Vice President Chiwenga to attend the third edition of the Iran Africa seminar in Tehran scheduled for late April as well as the Iran Expo.

The seminar aims to foster greater cooperation and understanding between Iran and African nations.
