THE ZANU PF Youth League has come up with a programme to fight drug and substance abuse through sport.
The programme was jointly launched in Mashonaland East Province this Monday by the ZANU PF Youth League and the Itayi Ndudzo Foundation, founded by Wedza North Legislator Cde Itayi Ndudzo.
The partnership will see football and netball teams from the Wedza North constituency competing for honours.
“As the ZANU PF Youth League, we value our youths as they are the vanguard of the party so we do not want to lose them to drug and substance abuse which has wreaked havoc countrywide,” said ZANU PF Mashonaland East Province Chairperson, Honourable Isaac Tasikani.
“Being the custodian of the youth league sport is one of the ways we have seen fit to use to fight drug and substance abuse, and we want our youth both genders to have something to do so that they don’t become redundant,” said ZANU PF Secretary for Youth Affairs, Honourable Tino Machakaire.
“As Wedza North constituency, we have not been left out in the drug and substance abuse menace so, we came up with this sports tournament to complement government efforts,” Honourable Ndudzo said.
The participating teams also received footballs, netballs and uniforms for the tournament.
