THE ruling ZANU PF party has won seven out of nine seats during the by-elections held on Saturday.
The just ended by-elections have seen ZANU PF gaining seven National Assembly seats out of the nine up for grabs to take the party’s overall tally to 144 out of 210 electable constituencies.
The seven seats have been wrestled from the once opposition strongholds such as Cowdry Park where ZANU PF’s Cde Arthur Mujeyi won against Vusumuzi Chirwa.
Other winners include Pedzai Sakupwanya who was uncontested in Mabvuku-Tafara, Phathisiwe Machangu in Lupane East, Thusani Ndou in Beitbridge and former Industry and Commerce Deputy Minister, Rajeshkumari Modi who bounced back in Bulawayo South.
The ZANU PF National Political Commissar, Dr Mike Bimha revealed that the results reflect the popularity of the party’s policies.
He said, “The outcome is testimony of the popularity of the party. People are now aware of the values of the party and the deliverables led by President Mnangagwa. This is a precursor to the next by-election.”
CCC claimed two seats in Lobengula Magwegwe through Tendai Chitura and Charles Moyo in Mpopoma-Mzilikazi constituency.
The by-elections have been necessitated by recalls of CCC legislators by the party’s interim Secretary General, Sengezo Tshabangu with more elections slated for the 3rd of February next year.
