Zambezi River search concludes after second body recovered

Story by Yolanda Moyo

THE search for two people who were swept away by strong currents in the Zambezi River during a baptism ceremony has ended following the recovery of the second body Tuesday morning.

Joint rescue teams retrieved the body downstream, bringing to a close a four-day operation that began after the pair were overwhelmed by fast-flowing waters on Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Mehluli Sibanda (30) and Alpha Moyo (27), both residents of Chinotimba and Minoans high-density suburbs in Victoria Falls.

Sibanda’s body was recovered on Monday, while Moyo’s remains were located early Tuesday after sustained search efforts along the river and surrounding gorges.

Shockwave Adventures Executive Director, Mr Philani Moyo, confirmed the development, saying the final body was retrieved from Rapid Gorge 13.
