RECENTLY sworn-in youthful legislators say they are determined to spearhead massive developments in their respective constituencies during their tenure for the benefit of communities.
The 10th Parliament is dominated by several new legislators, with most of them being young and energetic.
These young legislators are eager to see development in their communities through the continuation of the rural industrialisation path adopted by the Second Republic.
“We want to continue with projects that President Emmerson Mnangagwa initiated especially under the rural industrialisation agenda. We want to promote productivity in farms and only this will take our people out of poverty,” said Gutu East legislator, Honourable Benjamin Ganyiwa.
Masvingo Province legislator, Honourable Naledi Maunganidze said, “We are grateful as young people to be involved in government, we need to push for stiffer penalties for drug lords and drug peddlers such that it puts the end to drug abuse which is destroying generations,” she said.
“In Rushinga, there are schools being built and at various stages of completion so will push for their completion. We also have water challenges and through the government, we will ensure more boreholes are sunk across the province as availability of water is the basis for rural industrialization,” said Mashonaland Central legislator, Hon Barbra Thompson.
Zimbabwe adopted the youth quota which has seen ten youths making it into parliament, while some made it through direct elections.
With the blend of the old and young, the 10th Parliament is set to be characterised by robust and transformative debate.
