Young Chevrons hammer Namibia to reach Cricket World Cup Super-Six

Story by Raynald Ngwarati

THE Zimbabwe Under-19 Cricket team, the Young Chevrons, are through to the Super Six stage of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under 19 Cricket World Cup after beating Namibia by eight wickets in their final group match at the Diamond Oval this Saturday.

It was all smiles at sunset at the Diamond Oval as the Zimbabwe Under 19 cricket team delivered when it mattered this Saturday, hammering regional rivals Namibia by eight wickets to seal qualification for the ICC U-19 World Cup Super-Six stage.

The lads were eager to go from the onset after winning the toss and choosing to bowl, a decision which reaped reward thanks to some beautiful bowling from Takudzwa Nyamhuri and Ryan Simbi.

The two bowlers grabbed a combined seven wickets with Nyamhuri leading the charge to restrict Namibia to just 146 runs for eight in their allotted 50 overs.

Zimbabwe got off to a calm response in their innings but lost Ryan Kamwemba after 21 runs before Panashe Taruvinga and Brandon Sunguro put on a century stand for the second wicket in a patient approach to their innings.

Sunguro was bowled out a run later, but Taruvinga remained solid to grab his maiden Under 19 World Cup half century, before hitting a four to see Zimbabwe through to the next round of the competition.

Zimbabwe awaits to know their opponents in the Super Six Stage of the tournament.
