THE Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League has turned down Maningi Youth Soccer Academy’s bid for readmission into the topflight.
Maningi’s hopes of returning to the Women’s Premier Soccer League have hit a brick wall after all member clubs voted against their readmission at an Extraordinary General Meeting held earlier this month.
In a statement released this Wednesday, the league said the decision was influenced by several factors, among them budget limitations, the timing of the season, and unresolved disputes involving allegations of abuse directed at league and ZIFA officials.
The WPSL also cited fears of setting a wrong precedent for future cases.
Despite the setback, there had been a glimmer of hope when Prophet Walter Magaya pledged to assist the club financially.
Maningi had earlier withdrawn from the league due to financial struggles linked to high referee fees, lack of player compensation and general funding challenges.
Before their withdrawal, the academy was battling at the lower end of the table, second from bottom with just 15 points from 20 matches.
