THE Second Republic’s women empowerment programmes are bearing fruit, with those in the construction sector getting recognition beyond the country’s borders.
Basking in the glory of winning a Construction Sector Award in Tanzania two weeks ago, women under the Zimbabwe Women in Construction banner are heading back to Dar es Salaam to spearhead the formation of a continental body.
Led by Mrs Elizabeth Chakudunga, the women have perfected their art through active participation in the construction industry.
“We won an award in Tanzania as the first group of women to do construction. Now we are going back to start a continental body,” noted Mrs Chakudunga.
For other members, the construction industry has become a viable source of living.
“Am a graduate in business studies but have decided to go into construction and now am benefiting,” noted one of the members who spoke to ZBC News.
The government has created several empowerment opportunities for women to break into male-dominated sectors and participate in the national development agenda.
