SIKHUBEKISO Madeya Mangena, widow of the late national hero and ZIPRA Commander Alfred Nikita Mangena, is set to be buried at Lady Stanley Cemetery in Bulawayo this Saturday.
Mrs Mangena passed away on Sunday at her home in Manningdale due to an asthma-related illness.
She was 69.
Family members described her as the unifying force in their lives and a steadfast custodian of the Mangena family legacy.
“She always brought us together, especially during national events, she made it a point to bring the two families together. Even though my brother never made it back home after the war, she kept my brother’s legacy alive. She was a blessing to us the Mangena family,” the late Nikita Mangena’s brother, Patrick Mangena said.
After the assassination of her husband during the liberation struggle in 1978, Mrs Mangena was left to raise their two young children Lotshe and Leila while in exile.
Mrs Mangena is survived by her son Lotshe.
