A 31-year-old Harare lawyer has appeared in court facing fraud charges after allegedly using forged documents to facilitate the illegal subdivision and sale of a Borrowdale property valued at US$600,000.
The State alleges that earlier this year, David Junior Munashe Donzvambeva and his alleged accomplices, Tapiwa Gona, Danmore Nyamukapa and Tafadzwa Durawiti, created a fake title deed in the name of Grace Communications (Pvt) Ltd for Stand Number 163 Quinnington Road, Borrowdale, a property belonging to Bluegen Company Consultancy.
Prosecutors allege Donzvambeva used the forged title deed to obtain subdivision permits before disposing of one of the newly created stands to a buyer identified only as Dr Chiza.
It is further alleged that Donzvambeva and his accomplices later relied on the forged title deed to prepare and serve an eviction order on Bluegen Company Consultancy, prompting the matter to be reported to ZRP Borrowdale.
Investigations involving the City of Harare, the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, and the Department of Deeds, Companies and Intellectual Property allegedly established that the land originally belonged to the State before being allocated to the complainant.
The investigations led to Donzvambeva’s arrest, while his alleged accomplices remain at large.
The accused was remanded in custody.
