Zimbabwe’s Warriors tested defeat for the first time in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign after falling 2-1 to Cameroon in Yaounde this Tuesday.
Second half substitute, Terrence Dzukamanja could have had a brace had it not been for a debatable offside call late in the game which denied Zimbabwe a chance to end the campaign without a defeat.
Evergreen utility player Jordan Zemura could also have had a brace if Dzukamanja’s second goal not been ruled out.
Going into the match, Zimbabwe and Cameroon had both secured qualification but they never treated the match as a dead rubber as they brought their A game.
The hosts playing at a venue they had never lost at in 52 years took the lead early in the first half and by the 25th minute they had a 2-nil lead.
The visitors came back from the breather a rejuvenated side and the introduction of forward Terrence Dzukamanja further brought impetus into the Warriors play.
It was no surprise as the Supersport United striker found the back of the net courtesy of a Jordan Zemura assist.
Zemura curled another ball into the penalty area late on and found Dzukamanja again who made no mistake only to be denied by the match officials who adjudged Zemura to have been in an offside position.
Zimbabwe ended the campaign with nine points, five behind Cameroon who topped the group while Kenya and Namibia battled for pride in another Group J match.
The Warriors finished with two victories, three draws and a single loss to book a ticket to next year’s tournament in Morocco.
