VTCs identified as key to achieving Vision 2030

THE Government has reaffirmed its commitment to revitalising Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) across the country, recognising their critical role in achieving Vision 2030 through skills development, innovation, and industrialisation.

With growing consensus on the importance of harnessing the youth demographic dividend, government efforts are focused on equipping young Zimbabweans with practical and entrepreneurial skills that will empower them to contribute meaningfully to national development.

Among the institutions undergoing renovation is the Esigodini VTC in Umzingwane District, Matabeleland South, where upgrades are already in motion.

“Our Vocational Training Centre’s need attention so that we can produce well-equipped youths who are to serve the nation. As the ministry we will continue engaging other departments so that we develop our VTCs,” the Deputy Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Honourable Kudakwashe Mpamhanga said.

Speaking after touring Esigodini VTC this Friday, Vice President Kembo Mohadi said the government is working on modernising all the vocational training centres across the country in line with the Heritage-based Education 5.0 Model.

“The youth is the future of the country and we are saying we are the masters of our destiny, but do our youths have the requisite skills to push development? All the countries that have developed have working VTCs and we are doing that so that our country is developed. We need to make sure that we bequeath this country to capable hands, we need to prepare the youths to be employers, not employees,” Vice President, Cde Kembo Mohadi said.

Matabeleland South province boasts of five vocational centres which include Guyu, Esigodini, Avoca, Phangani and Lutumba.
