Chahwanda Stadium edges closer to CAF certification

THE Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has stepped up efforts to secure a CAF-approved venue, with its leadership assessing progress on the upgrading of Chahwanda Stadium ahead of a planned inspection by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi is leading a high-level delegation at the stadium, accompanied by Vice President Loveness Mukura and Executive Committee members Brighton Ushendibaba, Chido Chizondo and Kudzai Kadzombe.

The visit is part of ongoing assessments to determine the venue’s readiness before inviting CAF inspectors to conduct an official evaluation.

Chahwanda Stadium is among the facilities being considered for CAF certification alongside the National Sports Stadium, with ZIFA implementing a comprehensive infrastructure programme to ensure both venues meet the governing body’s minimum standards.

Zimbabwe currently has no CAF-approved stadium for international matches, but the association is optimistic that the ongoing renovations and compliance assessments at both Chahwanda Stadium and the National Sports Stadium will satisfy the required standards.
