Story by John Nhandara

VICE President General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga has signed a book of condolences at the embassy of Indonesia in Zimbabwe after the death of Indonesia’s former Vice President Hamzah Haz on July 24.

After signing the book of condolences, Vice President Chiwenga traced the relationship between Zimbabwe and Indonesia since the Asia Africa Bandung Declaration.

“The Republic of Indonesia and Zimbabwe are both members of the South-South cooperation and it was in Indonesia in the Bandung declaration that the Non-Aligned Movement was established.

“At that time, we were just a liberation movement and we have been with Indonesia from that time to the present day,” he said.

Vice President Chiwenga said Zimbabwe and Indonesia continue to cooperate in various sectors that include health, agriculture and manufacturing as they seek to deepen economic cooperation.

“Our cooperation with Indonesia is unparalleled. We continue to have high-level visits to Indonesia and vice-versa, cooperating in various areas like agriculture, manufacturing, and health and our cooperation will increase.

“I was in Indonesia two years ago. So, the cooperation between Zimbabwe and Indonesia is very high,” said Vice President Chiwenga.

The late former Vice President Hamza Haz died at the age of 84 on the 24th of July and served as the 9th Vice President of Indonesia from 2001 to 2004 during President Megawati Sukarnoputri’s administration.
