VICE President General (Rtd) Dr Constantino Chiwenga has arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he is leading a Zimbabwean delegation to the Group of Twenty (G20) Leaders Summit.
The Vice President, who is representing President Emmerson Mnangagwa, is expected to use the platform to highlight Zimbabwe’s investment opportunities and outline the country’s economic growth roadmap.
He was welcomed on arrival by Zimbabwe’s Chargé d’Affaires, Mr Shephard Gwenzi, and South Africa’s Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Honourable Thandi Moraka.
Although Zimbabwe is not a member of the G20, it has been invited to participate at the Summit by the host nation and current G20 Chair, President Cyril Ramaphosa. The meeting is scheduled for the 22nd and 23rd of this month.
The Summit, the first to be hosted by South Africa and the first on African soil, will focus on industrialisation, global debt reforms, inclusive economic growth, reducing inequality and mobilising support for development across the continent.
Vice President Chiwenga is expected to use the G20 platform to advance Zimbabwe’s engagement and re-engagement agenda with the international community.
The G20 accounts for more than 85 percent of global economic output and over 70 percent of international trade.
The grouping comprises 19 sovereign nations and two regional bodies; the European Union and the African Union.
More than fourty countries and several international organisations have confirmed their participation at this year’s Summit.
