Tobacco sales have raked in over half a billion United States dollars since the opening of the 2024 marketing season.
The tobacco marketing season entered day 48 this Friday, with 150 million kilogrammes (kg) of the golden leaf having gone under the hammer.
The leaf has so far raked in US$530 million, with the average price pegged at US$3.52 per kg compared to US$3 per kg during the same period last year.
The average price is however lower than the US$3.71 recorded during the first days of the marketing season.
Tobacco production is projected to be much lower worldwide than last year, resulting in increased demand for Zimbabwean golden leaf by international buyers.
